The Digital Twin The engineering company NIRAS has for some years used a suite of simulation tools to help clients to optimize design of future factories and operations in existing factories. The simulation toolbox enables industry players to build a "Digital twin" of a factory, where the functionality of the factory is detailed to individual machines, operators, conveyors, forklifts, buffers, etc. When the model is configured, different scenarios for operations can be tested based on real data, e.g. orders from a specific week, and as the model runs in real time, it is very visual showing not only bottle necks but also when and why the bottlenecks arises. It enables a "birds eye view" on the factory with the ability to zoom in on problems and address them.
