A major pan-European producer of snack products faced excessive maintenance and repair costs on its fryer equipment.
High-temperature (~180 °C) oil baths constantly degraded the grease lubricant in the bearings. Weekly regreasing was needed and bearings were not achieving expected life.
Timken suggested replacing the existing bearings with Poly-Round Plain Bearing Housed Units. Able to withstand temperatures up to 248 °C, these USDA-accepted polymer bearings are greaseless with no rolling elements. Their corrosion-resistant design promotes food safety and improves reliabilty.
By eliminating weekly lubrication time and regular bearing replacement, the customer reduced overall maintenance cost by 5000€ per year on each fryer.
But this was not the only benefit. Production rose due to more uptime and no unexpected surprises during shifts.
Food safety was improved due to better cleanability and oil baths lasted much longer due to a greaseless technology. These benefits also contributed to lower costs and lessened environmental impact.
