In a significant move towards revolutionizing Senegal's dairy sector, La Laiterie du Berger has joined forces with Waterleau, a leader in environmental technology. This partnership marks a pivotal step in La Laiterie du Berger's journey, led by CEO Bagoré Bathily, to empower local cattle breeders and foster a self-reliant dairy industry in Senegal.
Founded by Bagoré Bathily, a visionary veterinarian, La Laiterie du Berger began as an ambitious project to uplift local cattle breeders in Senegal's Richard Troll region. Despite contributing to 30% of the population, these breeders faced economic instability, overshadowed by a dairy market heavily reliant on imports. La Laiterie du Berger emerged as a beacon of hope, initially engaging 800 cattle breeders and producing the renowned DOLIMA dairy products – a testament to the motto, "Good for me, Good for my country."
In a significant development in May 2023, during a Belgian Economic Mission to Senegal, Waterleau, a company renowned for its environmental solutions, committed to partnering with La Laiterie du Berger. This collaboration was sealed with the signing of a Letter of Intent, followed by formal contracts in December 2023. Waterleau's role is monumental in this partnership, involving the design and construction of advanced wastewater treatment infrastructure in Richard Toll and Sandiara, employing their proprietary KROFTA DAF and LUCAS SBR technologies.
This alliance is not just about technological advancement; it's a stride towards sustainable and socially responsible development. The wastewater treatment plants will enable La Laiterie du Berger to adhere to Senegal's environmental code and discharge standards, thus reinforcing its commitment to ecological stewardship.
The CEO of La Laiterie du Berger, Bagoré Bathily, emphasizes the importance of this partnership: "Joining forces with Waterleau represents more than just an infrastructural upgrade; it symbolizes our dedication to sustainable practices and our responsibility towards the environment and the community we serve."
For Waterleau, this project aligns with their mission to contribute to environmentally sustainable industrial processes, particularly in regions like Senegal, where sustainable development is crucial for economic growth.
As these two giants converge their expertise and values, the future of Senegal's dairy industry looks brighter than ever. This partnership is not just a milestone for La Laiterie du Berger and Waterleau; it is a beacon of progress for the entire region, paving the way for a more self-sufficient, environmentally responsible, and economically stable dairy industry in Senegal.
