The innovative belt cleaner from Walter Gerätebau saves up to 90% of water consumption and simplifies the cleaning of belts.
Belt cleaning in the food industry used to be comparatively laborious, resource-intensive, and cumbersome. Note the word "used to be." With the belt cleaner, the cleaning specialists at Walter have introduced an innovation to the market that ensures excellent cleanliness while significantly saving space, time, and water consumption.
Low maintenance with the highest reliability. Enormous savings in water consumption and cleaning personnel. Additionally, effortless adjustment and operation: The water-powered belt cleaner requires no electrical or compressed air connections. Two bolts on the belt are sufficient to attach it at the desired cleaning time, along with a pressure water line.
The operating principle is also remarkably simple: On a frame, the belt cleaner moves from left to right over the conveyor belt to be cleaned. While conventional nozzle bars require around 10 nozzles for a width of 1.20 meters, the belt cleaner covers the same belt width with just 1 flat jet nozzle – a principle that was previously more common in lawn sprinklers or irrigation systems.
High potential for savings
"This reduces water consumption by 40 to 90%, as confirmed by customers already using the belt cleaner," explains Managing Director Marc Ingelfinger. Cleaning is done with pressurized water or optionally added chemicals. This works with all common low- and medium-pressure systems—the only requirement being a pressure water line with a pressure between 20 and 100 bar. The belt cleaner can be positioned on any conveyor belt with widths ranging from 300 to 1200 mm.
Two years of development time
What sounds simple in theory was a real challenge in implementation. "We invested about two years in development, during which we considered and tested two different stop media," explains Ingelfinger. "Due to the stop-acceleration principle, the belt cleaner experiences incredibly high dynamic forces. Ensuring that the cleaning still works smoothly was a nice, exciting task for us as a traditionally innovation-driven company."
Comprehensive service and consultation
For those interested in the belt cleaner, Walter's experts provide individual consultation and perform on-site cleaning at the customer's belt. Only the dimensions of the belt and a photo of where the device should be applied are required beforehand. Once the belt cleaner is in operation, Walter and its service team take care of maintenance and, if necessary, repairs. The belt cleaner can be sent in for service or repaired on-site.
Once again, Walter has created a device with added value for customers that is practical, resource-efficient, and environmentally friendly. All in line with the company motto: "next level cleaning."
